Knaresborough Community Energy is proud to have supported Knaresborough Town Council in delivering a major upgrade to the town’s Community Centre — combining clean solar power, smart battery storage, and new insulation to cut both costs and carbon.
This project builds on the energy audit we carried out in 2024, which highlighted poor insulation as a key issue. Since then, insulation has been installed, immediately helping to reduce heating demand and bring down bills. With that groundwork complete, the Community Centre is now equipped to generate, store, and use its own renewable electricity.
The new solar PV system totals 10kWp across 24 panels, paired with a 12kWh Fox modular battery. This allows the centre not only to power activities during the day but also to store excess solar energy for use later — keeping the lights on, the rooms warm, and costs under control.
Meeting the short timescale set by grant funding was no small task, but the installer, Yorkshire Energy Systems Ltd, rose to the challenge and delivered an excellent installation. As a thoughtful extra, while the scaffolding was up, they also fitted bird boxes for the site — ensuring that nature benefits too.
This project is a clear example of climate action in action — practical steps that make a real difference for the community. Lower energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and even a little more space for wildlife.
Knaresborough Community Energy will continue to support projects like this, helping local organisations take control of their energy future and strengthen our town’s resilience.
